How to Send Cryptocurrency: From Address to Confirmation

Guides

Published · GetBestWallet editorial

Review destinations, network fees and transaction status before making an irreversible crypto transfer.

Key takeaway

Check the recipient’s supported network and asset before signing, then verify the result in the correct explorer. A wallet’s submitted status is not the same as a confirmed, successful transfer.

Verify the recipient independently

Get the receiving address from the person or service you intend to pay. Confirm the asset, network and any memo or tag. Do not select an address merely because it appears in recent history: attackers can send tiny transactions from lookalike addresses. Clipboard malware can also replace copied text. Compare the full destination where practical, especially on a hardware device’s trusted screen.

Check the spendable amount and fees

Confirm that you have the asset to send and the fee currency required by that network. On many EVM networks, transferring a token requires the chain’s native asset for gas. The wallet may reserve a maximum fee estimate, so using the entire displayed native balance can fail. Exchange withdrawals can have separate minimums and service fees; they are not identical to an on-chain wallet transfer.

Read the final authorization screen

Verify network, destination, amount and estimated cost before signing. A simple payment should not unexpectedly request a token approval, ownership change or opaque contract permission. When uncertain, stop and inspect the action. For a first payment, a small test can catch mistakes, but make sure it meets the recipient’s minimum-credit rules.

Follow the transaction hash

After broadcast, record the transaction hash and open the correct explorer. Pending means the network has not yet included the transaction; it does not mean the recipient can already spend it. Inclusion and finality are different stages, and custodial recipients may wait for additional confirmations. A reverted EVM transaction can still consume gas even though the intended transfer did not succeed.

Know when to seek help

If an exchange has not broadcast a withdrawal, contact that exchange through its verified support channel. If a transaction succeeded but a service did not credit it, provide the hash, network and deposit instructions. Confirmed blockchain transfers generally cannot be cancelled by wallet support. Avoid paying recovery agents who promise reversal or request your recovery phrase. Inspect the original transaction before sending a second payment.

A practical sequence

  1. Ask the recipient for the exact asset, network and any required memo. Verify the destination through a trusted channel.
  2. Check the amount, available fee token and details shown by the signing wallet or device. Use a small test where practical; it does not guarantee a later transfer is safe.
  3. After submission, check the transaction hash on the correct network explorer. Confirm success before assuming the recipient has received or credited the funds.
